Me and Amy had a brief conversation after we had feedback from our teacher, thinking about what he had said.
I briefed the idea of having flashbacks within the video- perhaps in black and white to show the past of the narrative characters.
We also thought again about the green screen , and we may perhaps try it out to see what it looks like.

Feedback from teacher
From our pitch , our teacher really liked our idea of a road-trip for our music video. He and the rest of the class were really looking forward to seeing the final thing.
The only aspect he was concerned about was how we were going too access an older car and where we would get it from. we assured him that Grace's uncle renovates cars so we would have no problem borrowing one.

Synaesthesia Activity
within the whole class, we listened to each groups music, and on sheets of sugar-paper we wrote, drew and created ideas which we saw through listening to their song.
These images show the sorts of ideas which our peers thought up as they listened to our piece of music.
the main themes on this piece was school and teenagers in the American ways of life. The idea of a road-trip came up quite frequently, and it seemed like a realistic and good idea to proceed and our further ideas developed over this idea.

Music Choice
Having decided to work with two girls in my class, Amy and Grace,
we each came up and provided at least one piece of music which we thought could be considered for our music video. We emailed all the artists whilst we made a decision. After listening to each piece and writing down any synaesthasia which came tous, we decided to use

Late Nite Reading- Perfection
Although this was the one piece which we got least imagery, we were up for the challenge of producing a music video within a genre we would not normally listen too as it would open up our minds to create ideas and think more logically.

Music video analysis
Andrew Goodwins’ analytical framework suggests key aspects
of what creates a music video, which is separated into five categories. The
synaesthesia of seeing the sound is how the visuals of the video respond to the
audio, with the narrative and performance conventionally fragmented and
incomplete. Goodwin explains that music videos should ignore common narrative
which is important in their role of advertising. Another vital aspect is the
star image, where major labels expect close ups of their star. Furthermore technical
aspects are seen just as important as the narrative as they hold the video
together, through camera and movement. Lighting and colour helps to set the
moods and emphasise key moments of the song and mise-en scene needs to look
authentic for the professional element to be shown to the audience. The final
element is the relations of visuals to the song, which is separated into three
parts, Illustrate, Amplify and disjunctive. An illustrative video is one where
a set of images is used to illustrate the lyrics meaning and genre. When the
meanings of the song are added by visuals is called an amplify relation with a
disjunctive video having no meaning relation to the visual.
A second theorist, Sven E Carlsson believes that previous
research puts videos into one of two categories; however he thinks that videos
are more complex than. He has created a scheme called ‘Modern mythic
embodiment’ where from this perspective, the artist is seen as embodying one
and representing different aspects of a video. Similarly he has separated video
styles into several forms. The first is standard clip which is where a video
contains three visual transitions. The performance clip contains mostly filmed
performance, in common places such as a recording studio or rehearsal room. A
narrative clip is the most understood as a short silent movie containing an
easy to follow narrative, with the final being Art clip, which contains no
perceptible visual narrative or lip-synchronisation.
The editing increases to fast pace cutting as the diving
action begins in the chorus. The length of shots begins to decrease between
chorus and verse- being longer in the verse and short in the chorus indicating
the narrative is becoming more intense which is one aspect which engages the
audience to re-watch.
The mise-en scene of the entire video is set outside on a
blue sky sunny day, reflecting on the upbeat tempo of the song. Being filmed in
two distinct locations shows clearly the contrast between the narration and
performance. Sven would suggest this is a strong visual audio connection which
allows the audience to easily interpret and understand the context of the
video.
In conclusion, this video uses fast paced editing to ensure
excitability and intensity to the audience and the uses of shallow focuses
spotlights certain aspects which are to be watched. The close-up band
performance shots separate the interesting and non-interesting aspects of the
video making it more interesting to the audience and encouraging then to re-watch.

Andrew Goodwin's analytical framework
I have chosen to develop Goodwins framework to analyse P!nk's- Family Portrait
Pinks Music video to the song 'Family Portrait' is an Amplify video showing both meaning and illustration to the audience allowing them to look deeper into the meaning of the song through the visuals that they see.
Synaesthesia
-The visual of this music video shows a mother and daughter who seem very far apart. The daughter is wearing the same clothes as the artist signifying that she is singing about pinks child life and how she was treated as a child.
-The visuals show neglect between Pink and her daughter, between a family, which is what is being sung about.
- The visuals show the neglect of the child and the mother does not care about what she wants and her needs, only thinking about themselves, showing a connection between the visuals and the song lyrics. It contains both fast paced cutting in the bridge and the chorus with slower paced cutting in the verses too show emotion of the situation.
- The video shows no sign of black and white, but constantly showing the contrast of the little girl and artist. The lighting shows a very dull and gloomy atmosphere whilst in contrast, on the TV, the lighting is really bright showing a utopia and the dream family which she never had.
-The mode of address shows neglect through both lyrics and visuals which describe relationships and bonds being broken, and forgetting the most important things in life and/or taking a turn on the bad things in life. The mode of address is initially brought through by a young girl then later on it is transferred too the artist.
Narrative and Performance
-The narrative shows a close connection to the song itself, showing neglect between a family, however throughout the song, as Pink re-lives her past through her child, she realises that she is doing the same thing to her child and steps back to secure her. It It anchors down the meaning that all relationships are not simple and the ruins which are left behind in a break up can lead to regrettable actions- such as throwing books around as we see on the video.
- The video shows a clear narrative, which is not illustrate, showing a destroyed family piecing their life back together and contrasting their life to others which they see on the TV, to show a contrast that P!nk once had a loving family but now she has nothing.
-The narrative is close to a TV advertisement by the fast editing between shots which adverts sometimes use. it also uses graphic match shots.

-The video shows authenticity of the artist by placing a young girl in replacement of the artist as it connects with the audience better by being 'told' the story through a young child. Also it shows the life of pink from both perspectives, how she lived when she was a child, and how she lives now.
Star Image
-Both stars in the video are dressed exactly the same, showing they are the same person.
- It shows a development in the relationships of both when she was a child and when she was older.
-The close up shots of both of them show the similarities
- Artist doesn't look into the camera much, Little girl looks into the camera all the time she is lip syncing.
-The star image here is the little girl, when Pink was a child as it tells the story about her child life. The older pink comes more into the video towards the end.
Relationship of visuals too the music
-The video isn't exactly illustrated too the lyrics, but has some aspects and cuts which connect with the lyrics. such as when the lyrics say 'I ran away today' , the little girl runs away too the table and up the stairs away from 'Ran from the noise, ran away.' The way that P!nks life is illustrate through a little girl is effective because we see what she had back then towards the end we see what she is left with- nothing. There are only two people who are really shown through the meaning, which is the little girl and mother, with an appearance of an elderly figure which appears in the lyrics 'Daddy please stop yelling' showing some connection and illustrative features. The fast paced cutting shows emotion and the types of shots allow the audience too connect with the little girl and ow she is playing the role of a younger version of the artist.
Technical aspects
-There is good evidence of fast paced cutting when the lyrics are shown towards anger
- The close up shots are mainly of the little girl as she is considered more important
-The mise-en-scene shows a typical house and the drama is happening inside
